When looking back at those older Mario Party titles, what jumps out is how fun and inventive the series is, as well as how simple it is from a gameplay standpoint. It skews closer to the popular Nintendo 64 trilogy, drawing on Mario Party 1-3 for boards and gameplay elements. Mario Party Superstars has been well received, particularly by fans of the franchise's older entries.
With Superstars, Nintendo stepped back and realized what makes Mario Party so unique. That game wasn't well-received, containing little content and major issues that went unaddressed for years. Unfortunately, the Mario Party series was in a rut with the subpar release of Super Mario Party in 2018.
Whether that's the mini-games or the boards themselves, these games are easy to pick up and play for any age or skill level.
The beauty of the original Mario Party is in its simplicity. Mario Party Superstars could have been a shameless cash-grab by Nintendo, but it instead celebrates the classic board game party series.
